The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Knowing nothing about this film, I saw it yesterday with two friends and was moved to laughter, horror and sorrow. It is an autobiography by the editor of Elle magazine, who suffered a stroke. His words were dictated in the form of blinks, and transcribed by interpreters. It is filmed largely from his point of view, and we are privy to his comments. Extremely interesting, and enjoyable, but difficult to watch at times.
Julian Schnabel did an excellent job of directing, in my opinion. The Salon.com review of the film is here.
