The Fire by Katherine Neville

This sequel to The Eight is intriguing and fast-paced. Once again we are thrown in the middle of a mystery involving the chess set; it is very difficult for our heroine to figure out who is friend and who foe, but eventually it is clear and everything leads to the exciting climax.

Again we hop to different times and places to discover the people and events of the past that give us clues to the present dilemma and dangers.
