To Live (Huozhe)

This movie, directed by Yimou Zhang, is the story of a Chinese family through the 1940s, 50s, 60s, and the 70s, with all the various experiences of life in China during those periods.
It is a tale in which well-meaning characters do things that produce "evil" results, and some that seem evil produce "good" effects.
It is reminiscent of the old tale of the man's family and the horse, recounted here by Irma Schutte of the British Institute of Homeopathy. The moral is, of course, we do not have enough information to judge what is good and what is evil.
